generosity for the sake of being generous
Generosity has always been linked with spirituality. But it doesn't have to be. The act is generally done out of the idea that someday, somehow, it will bounce back to the giver, either within a lifetime or the after life. Giving is supposed to be a one-way action: towards the recepient ONLY. A presumption of a boomerang effect should be absent, as it would then result into a two-way action: give AND take.
The act of giving is cheapened by the giver's expectation to get something in return. For generosity to be pure, the giver could only expect to feel good inwardly, and only for a moment, and then forget about that feeling of self-satisfaction right after. No recognition nor accolade should cloud the purity of giving. That is why anonymous patrons are the best donors of all.
